Alec Soth to curate special exhibition at The Photography Show, New York

American photographer Alec Soth will curate a special exhibition at The Photography Show presented by AIPAD in April this year. A Room for Solace will feature scenes of domestic interiors which speak to the possibility of finding refuge during unpredictable political, economic and social times. Comprising portraiture, still life, and reportage chosen from selected exhibiting galleries, Soth has said, “With this exhibition, I want to take a break from the fractious public square of photography and wander quietly into people’s homes. Behind these doors I hope to find a sliver of solace in these unstable times.”

The annual Photography Show presents special exhibitions of private collections over the duration of the fair. In 2018, the special exhibitions included an exhibition from the collection of Joe Baio, a collection from Photographic Center Northwest, and a special exhibition of works curated by Sir Elton John. Richard Moore, president of the show’s organiser, The Association of International Photography Art Dealers has said, “Alec is a contemporary artist, but he has awareness and knowledge of photography spanning 19th century up to contemporary new media. We are excited about the quality works included in the special exhibition.”

The 39th edition of The Photography Show presented by AIPAD runs from April 4 – 7, 2019 at Pier 94 in New York. Explore more here.
