Born in 1968, Smith majored in Film History, Photography and Environmental Design Theory at the University of Colorado, Boulder. In 1993 Smith began a 15 year career as a photography research editor for magazines – Colors, Details, Vogue, The New Yorker, Architecture, Talk, Newsweek, and HBO’s The Black List Vol. 1, 2 in 2010. She has researched books including Balthus, Knopf; A History of Television, TV Guide; and Amsterdam/ New Amsterdam, The Museum of the City of New York; as well as a series of special issues for US News and World Report. In 2018 Smith began a ritual for creativity which became a collection of 100 paintings and selfies, The Black Woman Project. Vol. 1 and 2 were published simultaneously in late 2020. The Black Woman Project (Vol. 3) is currently in production for summer of 2021.
