Immersive Exhibition of work by Sebastião Salgado, ‘Amazonia’, to open in 2021
Sebastião Salgado explored the great depths of the Brazilian Amazon over a period of six years, forming his latest international touring exhibition, Amazonia. Comprising over 200 photographs, video testimonies, and large-scale projections, Amazonia will open at the Philharmonie de Paris in May 2021, travel to the Maxxi in Rome, SESC Pompéia in São Paulo, Museu Do Amanhã in Rio De Janeiro, and the Science Museum in London. The immersive exhibition captures Brazil’s striking forests, rivers and mountains, alongside ten indigenous communities photographed within remote villages.
Curated by Lélia Wanick Salgado, Amazonia is accompanied by an original musical soundtrack composed by Jean-Michel Jarre. The 52-minute musical score brings together ambient sounds from the jungle, fluidly weaving bird-call and mountainous rumblings in Jarre’s distinctive electronic style.
