Biography
Inspired by his studies in geography and the fantastical landscapes he encountered as a child travelling around the UK, Sholto Blisset’s paintings present unreal, almost mythical imagined spaces of quiet. His paintings centre on isolated architectures that have begun to crumble and become overgrown, or have had wings excised and replaced with topiary. Exploring geographies as psychological spaces, not just physical landscapes, Blissett combines the embellishment of fabled lands with the traditions of Romanticism. In doing so, he juxtaposes man and nature, the restrained and the wild, exploring how these notions can only exist in tandem.
Sholto Blissett (b. 1996) received a BA in Geography from Durham University in 2017 and his MA in Painting from the Royal College of Art in 2020. Blissett’s work has been exhibited in New York, London, Seoul and Milan. Blissett lives and works in London.
