Biography
Embracing kitsch aesthetics and the digital commodification of the quotidian, Romane de Watteville creates fragmentary lives of the metropolitan experience on canvas. She artfully plays with prints, textiles, patterns, skins, intimacies, meeting places, the run-of-the-mill, and the art historical in fashioning large scale collage-esque paintings and multi-panel pieces.
Romane de Watteville (b. 1993) graduated from École Cantonale d’Art de Lausanne in 2020 having received her BA in Art and Cinema History from the University of Lausanne in 2016. De Watteville was the recipient of the 2023 Bourse Culturelle Leenaards award, the Prix Mobilière in 2022, and the 2020 Prix Ernest Manganel from the Ernest Managel Foundation. Her paintings have been exhibited by 40mcube Art Center in Rennes, France, in partnership with the Centre Culturel Suisse, and shown globally in cities such as Geneva, Paris, Milan, Lausanne, Brest, Basel, and Berlin, among others. de Watteville lives and works in Lausanne, Switzerland.
