Biography
Horizontal lines structure fluctuating colouristic rhythms in Fleur Dempsey’s paintings. Through geometric repetitions and tonal variations that take inspiration from the abstract artists of the 20th century, Dempsey is able to represent landscapes, moods, or times of day, abstracted and reduced to their core elements. Much of what she depicts is time based or inherently temporal, drawing attention to the fleeting nature of experience and sensation.
Fleur Dempsey was born in London, 1994. She studied Fine Art at Central Saint Martins, graduating in 2016. She then went on to complete a Postgraduate Diploma at the Royal Academy Schools in 2024. Her work has been included in the RA Summer Exhibition, Royal Academy of Arts, London (2023), as well as at the RA Schools Show, Royal Academy of Arts, London (2024). Other exhibitions include How much the present moment means, Incubator, London (2023), Flow: Materiality in Motion, SET Kensington, London (2023), and Premiums Interim 1, Royal Academy of Arts, London (2023).
