Biography
Initially working in sculpture, Gabrielle Grill’s practice is currently preoccupied with works on canvas and paper. Harkening back to her early works, her paintings and prints celebrate and reinterpret decorative labor and fabric manipulation. Puncturing holes to form lace, dotting paint to create tiles, juxtaposing prints as if mending, Grill’s interiors create spaces of reflection through her repeated and methodological actions.
Grill (b. 1993) completed a BFA at Maryland Institute College of Art in 2015 before going on to study for an MFA at Stanford University, graduating in 2022. Grill participated in the Cité Internationale des Arts Studio Residency in Paris in 2022. Her work has been shown in New York, San Francisco, Philadelphia, and Baltimore. Grill lives and works in Ridgewood, New York.
