‘Zhelyazko’, Beli Bryag, Bulgaria

Zhelyazko and his mother Marina are battling to keep their rural home in Beli Bryag, where they have a smallholding, growing vegetables and fruit, including plums for traditional liqueur. Marina has already been evicted for coal once in her life and is fighting not to have to do it again.

With Zhelyazko at the mercy of the mining company, the villagers are planning legal recourse.
