Biography
Sara Suppan uses her artistic practice as a means of drawing attention to and communicating small and surreal moments. The works unite disparate subject matter through the tension between a playful tone and realist technical painting. Suppan’s solitary subjective experiences take on a grandeur as brief passing moments are captured and elevated into the subject of these articulately rendered paintings. Her works often include tactile gestures of physical touch and express the intrigue to be found in the mundane.
Suppan was born in 1994 in Minneapolis, Minnesota. She graduated with a BFA from Minneapolis College of Art and Design in 2015, receiving the Merit Scholarship Award. In 2019 she completed a summer residency at Salzburger Kunstverein, Austria. Her work has been exhibited internationally, including most recently with Kutlesa (Goldau, Switzerland), and Micki Meng (San Francisco), and will be included this July in Moosey (UK)’s booth at CAN Art Fair in Ibiza. and appeared in New American Paintings magazine. She lives and works in Minneapolis.
