Biography

Poetic, fanciful imaginations of the ecological fabric of the earth are figured, colourfully and sporadically, in Sarah Ann Weber’s paintings. The artist states she has ‘always gravitated towards books that had photographs of fossils and other organic shapes’, and the aesthetics of vegetation even on a cellular level. The resultant works straddle a line between figuration and abstraction, as elegant forms and vivid colours blend into one another and harmonise. Weber’s works are joyous celebrations of ecology and the earth, told through her own playful receptions of nature.

Weber, born 1988, studied at the School of the Art Institute, Chicago (2009), and the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, Pennsylvania (2011). Her work has been exhibited internationally including in Paris, Hanoi, Dallas, Los Angeles, Vienna, New York, Berlin, and Chicago. She has also been the recipient of several awards and residencies, including the Fountainhead Residency, Miami (2023), the Klots International Program for Artists, Lehon (2019), Artist Grant, The HEAT Group at American Airlines Arena (2013), The Ox-Bow Scholarship, funded by the Joan Mitchell Foundation (2013). Her work is held in the Xiao Museum of Contemporary Art, Suzhou, China. Weber lives and works in Los Angeles.
