Biography
Bryan Rogers paints stylised landscapes with densely overlapping trees, populated by larger-than-life male figures whose forms playfully intertwine with that of the surrounding flora. Patterns form as limbs meet trunks, winding together in a rhythmic, almost meditative, way. In their lack of a single perspective, Roger’s landscapes appear like complex tapestries, actively denying the eye a fixed point to settle. Through this, Rogers offers a complex reflection on contemporary masculinity and how queer individuals navigate public and private spaces.
Bryan Rogers was born in 1977 in Connecticut. He received an MFA from Pratt Institute, New York, New York and a BFA from Appalachian State University, Boone, North Carolina. He has exhibited across Europe and America, including at Taymour Grahne, London; Kutlesa Gallery, Switzerland; and a solo exhibition at Monya Rowe Gallery, New York, in 2022.
The artist lives and works in Virginia.
