Lorena Torres

Lorena Torres’ practice is deeply rooted in Colombia’s Caribbean coast, inspired by the culture, landscape and vernacular of the region where she grew up. Laden with symbolism and a poetic sensibility, her figurative paintings weave personal narratives into broader reflections on memory, intimacy and place. Drawing on the traditions of magical realism, Torres embeds her figures within both rural landscapes and domestic settings, creating scenes that verge on the surreal while remaining closely connected to her cultural heritage. More recently, she has expanded her practice to incorporate sculptural and installation-based elements, using symbolic objects alongside painting to explore themes of romantic loss, vulnerability and memory.

Born in 1991 in Barranquilla, Colombia, Torres received her BFA in Visual Arts from Pontificia Universidad Javeriana, Bogotá, in 2016. She has undertaken residencies at Proyecto Binario, Galería Subtítulo, Bogotá (2021); with Galería Subtítulo in Miami (2022); and at Casa Santa Ana, Panama City (2024). Selected solo exhibitions and presentations include A Head is a Dark Place, Proyecto Binario, Galería Subtítulo, Bogotá (2021); Waiting for My Love To Find Me, Pablo’s Birthday, New York (2023); El Milagro es la Pereza de Díos, Huxley-Parlour, London (2024); and a solo booth presented by SGR Galería at Untitled Art, Miami Beach (2025). Selected group exhibitions include Emergence, The Room, London (2022); Ordinary Instant, Thierry Goldberg, New York (2022); and Interest in Humanity: Portraits of Yesterday and Today, Fou Gallery, New York (2023). She currently lives and works in Bogotá, Colombia.
