Biography
Layering meanings and sketches over one another onto canvas, Xanthe Burdett entangles bodies and stories. Her compositions stem from sketchbook pages that she drafts and returns to, creating multi-dimensional compositions exploring strands and themes from art history, personal reflection and mythologies. With her non-hierarchical web of references, Burdett creates works that further the art-historical lineage of trying to capture the blurry boundary between man and nature.
Graduating with a BA in Education, English, and Drama from Cambridge University, and an MA in Painting at the Royal College of Art in 2024. Burdett has received the De Laszlo Foundation Young Artist Prize and was shortlisted for the Jacksons Painting Prize. Burdett lives and works in London.
