Huxley-Parlour is delighted to announce Colombian artist, Lorena Torres’ second solo exhibition with the gallery, Un Suspiro Lleno el Mundo. Presenting a suite of sixteen new paintings, many of which were made during the artist’s residency at the Josef and Anni Albers Foundation in Senegal, the exhibition continues Torres’ exploration of magical realism, figure, symbolism and folk cultures.

The artist folds contradictions into her work, drawing them together so they collect across her canvases: domestic spaces open onto expansive landscapes, intricate floral motifs and dense pattern contrast with abstracted planes of colour, and observed encounters are clouded with tinges of magical realism which expand Torres’ narratives beyond the personal to speak to broader themes of belonging, intimacy and memory.
Collapsing the boundaries between external and internal, Torres’ psychologically charged works emphasise an interconnection between place and individual. Embedding her figures within their landscape, Torres unites her subjects and compositions through the replication of patterns and palette. The artist’s works are laden with symbolic significance; animals, celestial bodies and natural forms act as markers for hope, loss, liberation and spirituality. Through this delicate interweaving of the allegorical and the literal, Torres negates conclusive storytelling, locating beauty and optimism in the everyday, and offering the opportunity for re-invention.

Biography
Lorena Torres’ practice is deeply rooted in Colombia’s Caribbean coast, inspired by the culture, landscape and vernacular of the region where she grew up. Laden with symbolism and a poetic sensibility, her figurative paintings weave personal narratives into broader reflections on memory, intimacy and place. Drawing on the traditions of magical realism, Torres embeds her figures within both rural landscapes and domestic settings, creating scenes that verge on the surreal while remaining closely connected to her cultural heritage. More recently, she has expanded her practice to incorporate sculptural and installation-based elements, using symbolic objects alongside painting to explore themes of romantic loss, vulnerability and memory.
Born in 1991 in Barranquilla, Colombia, Torres received her BFA in Visual Arts from Pontificia Universidad Javeriana, Bogotá, in 2016. She has undertaken residencies at Proyecto Binario, Galería Subtítulo, Bogotá (2021); with Galería Subtítulo in Miami (2022); Casa Santa Ana, Panama City (2024), and most recently Thread supported by the Josef and Anni Albers Foundation in Sinthian, Senegal. Selected solo exhibitions and presentations include A Head is a Dark Place, Proyecto Binario, Galería Subtítulo, Bogotá (2021); Waiting for My Love To Find Me, Pablo’s Birthday, New York (2023); El Milagro es la Pereza de Díos, Huxley-Parlour, London (2024); and a solo booth presented by SGR Galería at Untitled Art, Miami Beach (2025). Selected group exhibitions include Emergence, The Room, London (2022); Ordinary Instant, Thierry Goldberg, New York (2022); and Interest in Humanity: Portraits of Yesterday and Today, Fou Gallery, New York (2023). She currently lives and works in Bogotá, Colombia.
