Eileen Cooper RA discusses her latest body of work – fifteen new paintings which explore the theme of ‘personal space’. Whilst Cooper’s largely female protagonists turn away from the imaginative world for which she is best-known, the figures which inhabit these new works – all produced in 2019 – remain universal. Through a focus on the female figure in nurturing and intimate spaces, Cooper revisits and expands on themes that she has explored throughout her forty-year career, those of female experience, primarily fertility, sexuality and motherhood.
