Pieter Hugo at the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston
Two works from Pieter Hugo’s seminal series The Hyena and Other Men are to go on display at the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston as part of their exhibition Through An African Lens: Sub-Saharan Photography from the Museum Collection.
Abdullahi Mohammed with Mainsara, Lagos, Nigeria (2007) and Mummy Ahmadu and Mallam Mantari Lamal with Mainsara, Abuja, Nigeria (2007) are included in the exhibition of seventy photographs which explores a variety of artistic styles and expressive lenses from the 1950s to the present day. The exhibition includes work by artists from Angola, Benin, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Mali, Nigeria, Republic of Congo and South Africa.
Performance and personal identity, cultural traditions and modern aspirations, and social and political context are the common threads woven through the photographs on display, which will be on view until 5th July 2020.
